166 Farmer Case Study: Bluegrass Beef Shares their Marketing Strategy

166 Farmer Case Study: Bluegrass Beef Shares their Marketing Strategy

June 29, 2022 by Corinna

I LOVE interviewing other farmers who are GREAT at marketing. Sometimes, the best way to grow our own  marketing strategy is to see what other farms are doing. Today’s guest is Melissa Ballard of Bluegrass Beef in Kentucky. She has managed to build a growing, profitable farm business by attracting the right kind of client, tell her farm story, and turn them into repeat buyers. Whether you’re a beef producer or a vegetable farm, there’s lots of advice hiding in this episode about how to market and sell your product.

Hit play and let’s get started!

Who is Melissa Ballard?

Melissa grew up in Frankfort, KY, but she wasn’t a farm girl. She married her husband Josh while he was in veterinary school at Auburn University, and eventually settled down in Shelby County, KY. In 2007, they thought it would be a good time to start a herd of beef cattle. Melissa was admittedly unsure about this, but begrudgingly said “OK”. They slowly grew their herd (and their family), finishing their first grass-finished steer in 2011. Melissa quickly embraced the farming lifestyle, and now handles all sales and marketing for the beef business, as well as farm duties as needed.
