201 Building a Marketing Strategy for Your Meat Farm with Kayla Gibson
March 8, 2023 by Corinna
What if you were just starting out your pastured meat business in a small town where there’s no current market for it? How do you convince a new community to accept you, believe in you, and support you? Today, I interview my guest Kayla Gibbons from Sugar Butte Farms, who decided in 2019 to start their farm in the small town of Lowell, Ohio. Kayla harnessed the power of social media and some popular farm swag to get the word out about her farm. As you’ll hear, she had to do a LOT of pre-education in the early years. Kayla shares what the strategy looks like to move through this early start-up phase of your farm business. You’ll hear how she uses monthly “themes” to guide her promotions in her email copy, her social, and her Facebook community. Kayla is also a member of my Accelerator small group coaching community!

Who is Kayla Gibson?
Kayla Gibson is a cheerleader converted farmHER of Sugar Butte Farms in Ohio. After discovering one pain point after another researching the current food system, she and her husband, Eric, decided to take their family’s food consumption into their own hands by creating a farm that fills their expectations. Using innate instincts, combined with knowledge from niche market farmers, and ancestral food experts, Sugar Butte Farms was created so that animals can thrive outside. Her pursuit for nutrient-dense meat and humane management of animals spread into the hearts and onto the plates of the Mid-Ohio Valley. What was once a personal dream, has now become a mission to not only revive the local food system but to create a biodiverse ecosystem for generations of humans, animals, bugs, plant life, and microbes to come.
