Episode 60 What to Put Inside your CSA Handbook

Episode 60 What to Put Inside your CSA Handbook

June 10, 2020 by Corinna

Now that you’ve gotten all these new CSA members this season, we want to shift our focus to how to keep them coming back next year.

Creating satisfied customers starts with setting and managing accurate expectations. If both sides are clear how the CSA works, what it will do (and not do) — you can circumvent so many disappointments.

So how are you intentionally doing this? One way we tackle this is through our CSA Membership handbook.

Think of it as the “one source of truth” for your CSA members. It’s like a “user manual” for your members will all your policies and procedures, what if scenarios, and the fine print. Each year, we tweak its contents to reflect what our expectations are. And we expect our  members to read it and know its contents.

But getting someone to actually read it can be tricky. So how can you make sure your members know what the CSA experience will be like? And what do you put inside this manual? If you’re new to CSA, this may be new territory. So I decided to spend a whole session on this topic.

Hit play and let’s get started!

Some of the resources mentioned in this episode:

  • Find my Facebook group for farmers! I jump in here every week to teach farmers tips and fundamentals of marketing.
  • Grab my 2020 CSA Handbook and use it as a template. Click on the link to subscribe and it will download to your computer once you check the confirmation email.
  • Take my mini-training on The Customer Value Journey. This framework undergirds ALL my marketing, and I consider it to be one of the MOST important things you need to learn. Think of it as “Marketing Fundamentals.” The course takes an hour to complete, and it’s super affordable.
  • My CSA Membership Academy — Speaking of customer onboarding, this tool has been a lifeline for my CSA members. Join this online library on a monthly or annual basis and get access to the “success path” I’ve created for my CSA members to help them become really good at using their box.  I have a lot of farmers who purchase the Academy to help them get ideas and templates for their own training system.
