Ep 189 Multiplying Your Farm’s Generosity: My Feed the Need Bag Project

Ep 189 Multiplying Your Farm’s Generosity: My Feed the Need Bag Project

December 07, 2022 by Corinna

In this week’s episode, I wanted to share a very cool Thanksgiving project we did last year called “Feed the Need” bags. It served as a way for us to donate our produce to people in need, but USE OUR CUSTOMERS as the vehicle to do so. We found that this initiative created so much momentum and positive goodwill in our community. We were going to give the food away anyway…. but to invite our customers to be the ones who personally gave it away, and to see them get energized and generous — that was powerful!
It actually ended up creating a lot of revenue for us too — although that was not the goal. It drove people to the store to claim a bag. Then while they were there, they ended up buying other things. I was reminded of the principle that when you are generous, the blessing comes back to you ten-fold. This was definitely the case. Take a listen to hear how it works, and I challenge you to find a way to use this idea in our own business. Multiply your generosity by channeling the power of your customers!

Here was what I posted on my Facebook page about the Feed the Need bags:

feed the need“Feed the Need” bags are back! Once again, God was SO good to us this year. Kurt and I have an abundance of food we want to donate back to people in need. But rather than just bring it to a food bank, we’d like to use YOU to multiply the effect! We’ll be loading a set number of Feed the Need bags into the store for $2 each. These bags are loaded with veggies like onions, squash, carrots, etc. (Valued at around $25 each). We invite YOU to claim a Feed the Need bag and then personally deliver it to a specific person you know as a surprise gift this holiday season. It can be someone who’s having a hard time, or just needs a show of grace, kindness and hope. We really want to challenge you to pick a PERSON (as opposed to an agency) to give your bag to. The bag then provides the opportunity to have a moment of hopeful conversation and connection – -which is what people need more than anything.
We encourage you to have fun with this! Last year, customers customized their Feed the Need bag — adding a turkey, homemade pie, and other bonuses. You can get your kids to decorate the bag, or design a fun card to go along with it. Be creative and help us multiply the effect of this blessing.
