112 How to Set Up a Market Card Style CSA with Jen Browning of Juniper Layne Farm
June 16, 2021 by Corinna
Have you thought of doing a “Market Card” style CSA, but weren’t sure how it worked? Well today’s guest is Jen Browning of Juniper Layne Farm in Portland, and she answers all the details for how to set up this kind of CSA. We cover which platform she uses for the gift cards, what the offer looks like, how she keeps track of balances, and what denominations she now uses – plus we talk about some of the risks (and benefits) of this style of CSA.
Who is Jen Browning?
Jen Browning is a first generation farmer located in a suburb just outside of Portland OR. After many years in the non-profit, social services sector, Jen made the jump to farming and, while still very much a beginner, 2021 will be her third farming season. The farm has grown from 1/8 acre to 3/4 acre of vegetable production in the last three years. Primary sales outlets are one area farmers market and Farm Fridays, an on-farm market on Friday afternoons. Jen is also a foster parent to an 11 month old baby boy
