75 How Sarah Judd Used a CSA Early Renewal Campaign to Get More of Her Members to Sign Up Before Christmas
September 23, 2020 by Corinna
In this podcast, I interview Sarah Judd from Meadow Lynn Farms. Sarah farms full-time with her husband Thomas and in-laws Fred and Sharon. The farm encompasses a 50-cow Jersey dairy, cash crops, 12 acres of strawberries and 130- member CSA program. Sarah started the CSA in 2015 after deciding to leave her off-farm job and help to diversify the farming operation. The CSA runs for 20 weeks from June to October with 95% of their members picking up their veggies on the farm. Sarah and her family farm near Simcoe, Ontario.
In this episode, we talk about the power of relationship-building to driving customer satisfaction. She also shares a couple of innovative sales and marketing strategies that have gotten her some momentum (including something to do with painted rocks!). Sarah uses the Early Bird Launch formula to help pre-sell her shares in late October, and has had really good success! She talks about what her “offer” looked like and what she’d do differently next time.

Some of the resources mentioned in this episode:
- My new course “CSA Early Bird Campaigns that Convert” is now open for enrollment through Sept. 27, 2020. In this step by step implementation program, I help you build your own early bird sales campaign in 3 weeks, so you can launch it to your own members and get MORE of them to renew when you want them to! To learn more about the course and sign up, go here.
- Sign up for my free webinar “Three Secrets to Early CSA Renewals: How to Get Your Members to Sign up When You Want Them To” on Sept 24th (at 8 PM EST). Click on the link to be taken to the registration page! If you miss the live presentation, there will also be a replay you can watch! But you have to subscribe!
- Find my Facebook group for farmers! I jump in here every week to teach farmers tips and fundamentals of marketing.
- Sarah mentioned a video email tool she started using on my recommendation — called “BombBomb.” You can also test out Bonjoro (which is what I now use because it’s cheaper).
- My CSA Membership Academy — This tool has been a lifeline for my CSA members. Now farmers can join this online library on a monthly or annual basis and get access to the “success path” I’ve created for my CSA members to help them become really good at using their box. I have a lot of farmers who purchase the Academy to help them get ideas and templates for their own training system. Join now for a month, and cancel anytime!
